About Me

Hi! I’m Shelby! I'm a 22-year-old New England girl, originally born in Baltimore. I'm outgoing, pretty laid-back, a little weird, and always up for having fun. I have two German Shepherds, Diesel and Artemis, and they're a huge part of my life. I'm happiest when I'm making something, starting another project, or outside somewhere beautiful. I love mountains, forests, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, paddleboarding, and visiting national parks. I also ride a 2005 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy. I like some Harley stuff, but I promise motorcycles aren't my entire personality! My overall taste is probably best described as dark, spooky, outdoorsy, eclectic, crafty, and a little strange. I love things that make you look twice and think, “What even is that?”

Favorite Music

I love 90's alternative / numetal!

some of my favorite bands are - korn - alice in chains - limp bizkit - in this moment - metallica

Things I love

I love oddities, curiosities, strange little trinkets, gothic and spooky things, true crime, horror, paranormal stuff, skulls, snakes, celestial and witchy things, crystals, tattoos, and anything generally unusual. I'm much more oddities cabinet than traditional Halloween. One of my favorite sets of decorations is three vegetable skulls—a corn skull, lettuce skull, and broccoli skull—which probably explains my taste better than I ever could. I also love nature and the outdoors, especially mountains, forests, waterfalls and lakes. Stingrays are my favorite animal, and fall is by far my favorite season. Winter...not so much. Color-wise, I LOVE pink, but I'm equally drawn to dark muted earth tones and neutrals. I like the unexpected combination of pretty/girly things with darker or stranger ones. A few other random likes are the Baltimore Ravens, Dexter, astrology/tarot, plants and flowers, and Michael Godard's artwork.

Oddities & Collections

This is probably the easiest way to my heart. I collect oddities, strange trinkets, pressed pennies, crystals, and magnets from places I've visited or ones that are just plain weird. I love little objects that make you do a double take. Strange figurines, skulls, anatomical things, unusual animals, creepy vintage-looking objects, fossils, specimens, bones, teeth, feathers, shells, preserved insects, and other curiosities are all fair game. I'm okay with real/natural oddities as well as things inspired by them, as long as anything natural is ethically and legally obtained. I'm not necessarily looking for gross-out stuff—I like weird and intriguing more than disgusting. Pressed pennies are especially welcome! I love the idea of having them from places I haven't personally visited. I also like crystals, but I'm more of a quality-over-quantity person. I'd rather have one interesting stone than a handful of random low-quality crystals. Thrifted, antique, vintage, and secondhand finds are absolutely welcome. Honestly, wandering through an antique or thrift store and finding something bizarre that made you think of me is probably one of the best ways to shop for me.

Books

I LOVE to read. My favorites are dark psychological thrillers, psychological horror, crime/mystery, serial-killer stories, survival stories, and generally disturbing fiction. I love books that mess with your head, have twists, make you question what's happening, or leave you thinking WTF did I just read? Some books on my wishlist include Penpal, Dear Laura, Confessions, I'm Thinking of Ending Things, My Dark Vanessa, Living Dead Girl, and Bad Man, which probably gives you a pretty good idea of my bookshelf. I usually prefer fast-paced page-turners, although I'll happily read something slower if it's well written and worth the buildup. I generally gravitate toward fiction rather than true-crime books, although I love true-crime podcasts. Romance isn't something I normally reach for, but I can certainly appreciate a good smut scene! Romance within another story doesn't bother me at all. I don't have strong preferences about book length, YA vs. adult, happy vs. sad endings, etc. I tend to prefer standalones, but that's not a hard rule. And PLEASE don't feel like a book needs to be brand new! Used and thrifted books are absolutely welcome. Writing, highlighting and annotations don't bother me either. As long as it's readable, isn't falling apart, and doesn't smell funky, we're good.

Crafts

I'm one of those people who always seems to have another project going. I use my Cricut, bedazzle things, make bracelets, build LEGO, do DIY/home projects, and I'm starting to get into scrapbooking. I'm generally willing to try just about any craft at least once. Craft supplies I can actually use are welcome, especially vinyl, cardstock, flat-back rhinestones/gems, interesting specialty materials, Cricut supplies or useful blanks. Some paper is great too, especially as I get into scrapbooking - I just don't need huge quantities of it. I appreciate handmade things and the time someone puts into making something for me. My personal taste tends to lean toward pieces with a more polished/finished look, but I will always appreciate someone's effort and creativity.

Food & Drinks

I'm a sour + salty person, although chocolate certainly isn't getting turned away. I love sour candy, sour cherries, York Peppermint Patties, chocolate-covered fruit, peanut butter, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, cherry, pineapple and lime. For salty things, I LOVE pickles and pickle-flavored things, Lay's Salted Poppables, Wheat Thins, chips, etc. Drink-wise, Diet Coke and Dr Pepper are favorites, and I love Alani Nu Witches Brew and Dunkin' Refreshers. Please skip mango and peach flavors. I don't have any food allergies or dietary restrictions.

Things I'd rather not receive

I'm pretty easygoing, but I'd rather have one thoughtfully chosen thing than a bunch of filler. Please skip religious or political items, glitter, washi tape, postcards, beauty/cosmetic products, heavily scented items, and large amounts of stationery or random craft scraps/supplies that are unlikely to get used. I'm also not really into childish/cutesy designs or generic quote/saying merchandise. A weird pen or bizarre piece of stationery? Sure. A notebook that says something like “But First, Coffee!”? Probably not for me. I'm not a huge sticker person either. I don't have many places to put them, so they unfortunately tend to sit around collecting dust. For scented items, I'm pretty picky. Vanilla and coconut are usually safe, but otherwise I'd rather avoid strongly scented things. And while I love little trinkets and oddities, I'm not looking for random clutter just for the sake of filling a package. Thoughtful, strange, useful, thrifted, handmade, or interesting beats quantity every time.
